Just purchased a great shape 1996 Speedster. There is not a pole to attach the rope in back, only a small circular hitch at the back of the boat. Will that work very well? If there a better modification?

That's where you want to attach to. The pile of you had one is technically do skiing but I use mine for both. It came on my 99 speedster. But I also have the lower attachment point.

@racerxxx thank you. It doesn’t seem like the lower attachment point would be very strong. Is there a way to attach a pole? (Though maybe the attachment point is strong?)

That was installed from the factory for that purpose. The poles are really for water skiing so the rope is pulled straight not downward, the evolution of skiing brought that on. Towers are for skiing and wake boarding, mostly wake boarding to give you upward motion for tricks. You'd have to fabricate something for a pole if that's how you really want to go. I've been on skis behind plenty of boats that you attach at that low point and it's totally fine. If you haven't been behind the boat yet, try it it's honestly not bad at all. The jet boats have their limitations but work fine for the rec sports of the back. They're definitely not a ski nautique, but they're also no where near the price tag either.

On my Challenger I have the pole option, and I actually use that pulled up just enough to clear the hatch cover when I take the kids tubing. I had originally used the lower attachment point, but wasn't loving the rope management and keeping the tow rope out of the water. An option for that is the mid-line inflatable ball that keeps the rope up under tension.
