I'm winterizing my son's 97 Challenger. In the downloaded manual on page 01-05-2 one of the steps is,

Propulsion System
Lubricant in impeller shaft reservoir should be
drained. Reservoir should be cleaned and refilled
with 70 mL (2.4 U.S. oz) of BOMBARDIER synthetic
75W 90 GL5 polyolester oil (P/N 293 600
011). Refer to PROPULSION SYSTEM 08-02.

Is this something generally done as part of a winterizing? I looked at 08-02 and it looks like a lot of stuff has to come apart to check the oil. How often should this be done? He bought the boat this spring, unsure of previous service efforts.

Any suggestions?

That would be the cone on the end of the pump. There are tons of threads with pics on here. I do it as part of winterizing. If water got into it, it will cause major damage over the winter. It takes me about an hour to do both pumps and only cost like 10 bucks. Any full synthetic 75/90 gear oil works.

This thread helps a lot too.
