What were they doing?

I saw the strangest thing this weekend on the lake. Two different boats doing it. They were pulling somebody like 2-4ft behind the boat. Going maybe 15-20mph. He was on a wake board or something similar. They were doing it for a while. One guy even let go of the rope and kept going almost like he was surfing. The person on back handed him the rope back and then he kept going.

Strangest thing I've ever seen on the water. Also seemed like it could be really dangerous being basically right on top of the prop.

Any ideas on what they were doing??

It is called wake surfing/scurfing. Done it behind my Sisters Svfara Wake boat. I believe it was more like 10 MPH or less depending on how much wake the boat creates. Very easy to get up, and fun to do. My Sis is real good, she can step off the back onto the board and surf, and when she is done she can step on too.

Too close to the boat, and too slow for my comfort.

I am a real surfer (gotta clarify since there are so many terms out there with "surfing" in them, I surf natural waves off the beach) so it looks boring compared to that.

Now I got a buddy that does it in the Houston Ship Channel behind the supertankers. Might be able to find vids of that on the internet too. Look up James Fulbright.

Here is the first Google hit on him...http://www.surfline.com/travel/tripwire/tripwire.cfm?id=1338

That's it! You're right they were going more like 10mph. And yes the guy let go of the rope, sat there in the same relative position to the boat for prob. 5 seconds, then stepped back on the boat (or something like that). It was almost like watching a magic trick when the guy let go of the rope and didn't fall in the water! Wild stuff..

Where in TEXAS do you surf? Not any waves here to surf. That looks really cool though. I'm not gonna do it.

Hey your in Austin. come on up to waco I'll put you behind my comp ski boat She might just make a little more wake than that a sea doo.
