Wear Ring install question on 2000 Seadoo XP

The wear ring I bought is black, one end has 8 little holes along the edge and has a sharp 90 degrees edge, and the other end has a rounded bevel on it. Which end goes in first? I can't tell be any of the "how to" and most the pictures I have seen, I can't tell.

the flat end goes into the pump. the bevel/lip goes out.
