wear ring clearances???

I have a 1996 XP that I am going to replace the wear ring on, but I just wanted to know just how tight of a clearance the new wear ring should have once it is assembled with the impellar back on the shaft. That is when I hold the unit up to a light source how much light should seep through between the impellar and the wear ring?

It is a measurement. .004 is the good, .040 is cavitation (the Bad). Consult your manual. Use a machinist's long feeler gauge set
 
Does the impellar have to be removed to replace the wear ring? Also now that I have the jet pump off how do I remove the old silicon gasket, and what kind of silicon should I make the new gasket from? Oh, one more question, I would like to regrease the drive shaft spline, but I do not know what kind of grease I should on it.
