Wave Jumping has to be hard on a boat....

It's inevitable at times to avoid and it goes without saying, the bigger they are, the harder they fall. With jet-skis you crave wakes. I know there are plenty of posts and pics on here about wake jumping with jet boats. You, me...we're all doing it. I occasionally hit them at moderate speeds and they're usually relatively small wakes. We were cruising about 40-45 mph and watched a good sized boat pull a u-turn with a tube in tow. As I approached the usual rolling wake I encountered the whirlpool wake left from the u-turn. They were a tad bigger than I expected. We launched pretty good and came down with a thundering crash that sounded like everything in the boat had broken, shattered, splintered, etc. :ack: My fiance up in the front at the time took a pretty good jolt. Yes, not the best place to be when hitting a wake. My friend following us in his ski said he couldn't believe how far the boat went.

No visible damage was found that I could see. I don't search out these kind of wakes and don't look to make that kind of jumping a habit. I have read others on here doing this routinely. How can this be good for your boat? Something has to give at one time or another from the beating or eventually down the road. I'm sure that wake wasn't half as big as many of you have taken on and I'm very curious if anyone has experienced any damage. My teeth still hurt.

I'm with you, our 01 Utopia doesn't get air often but it happens on occasion and when it lands it feels like there's only me sitting in the seat and the steering wheel in my hand left and everything else crashed/smashed around me...not a good feeling.

This is my first boat so I'm not sure how "solid" these are either.

My boat seems to be built to jump, it is basically a big jet ski. I love catching air but my boat cost a lot less than yours. My buddy and I had a competition as to who could get more air but it is an unreal feeling when the boat leaves the water and you soar off a wake. Nothing but WOT off wakes.
