Water regulator leaking on when running out of water?

Is it possible that my 1996 GTX will leak water from the regulator on the exhaust when it is hooked up to a hose but not when in the water? Maybe the extra water pressure from those hose makes it leak but it wont when under normal conditions? I cannot figure out why else this is leaking because the bellows and everything else seems to be in perfect condition, any thoughts?

Check for a pin hole circled in red. This is where the clamp end contacts the rubber and makes a hole 95% of the time.

ill go pull it back off in a few minutes, could a pin hole really cause that big of a leak?

Yes a pin hole can. There can't be any holes at all. Also I have seen ones that the bellows are not seated all the way down will leak like that. Push it down hard and it shouldn't pull back up easy. Then put the spring and cap on.

so i looked really closely at the whole bellows and it looks totally fine, i also took the assembly and really pushed it down in there hard, and it did stick a little, but it took super minimal force to remove it again. When i started it up it did not leak at all at idle, but when i reved it just a little it started dripping, but much slower than before i pushed it in its slot

So i went a took it apart on more time and made sure it was really pushed all the way down in there, and now even with reving, as long as tho hose water pressure is nice and soft it wont leak, should i assume its fixed?

I would give it a try and keep an eye on it. Back it into the water and rev it while on the trailer to make sure. THere are some that just will not stop leaking and have to be replaced. My guess is the plastic housing deforms from heat.

im gonna try it out soon, the only issue is the at lake is like 40 minutes from me so hopefully its good to go

The plastic can easily deform and leak like mikidymac said. Very common too.

so it looks like that main plastic housing is no longer available as a new part from seadoo? anyone know where it can be found?

Best bet is to find a used one from a 2000 model

You know it's bound to fail and you'll miss time on the water. IIRC, look at the number on the brass fitting, they are different with a different orifice size. They're stamped with a number on them. It's been a little while since I've bought one.

that looks like the part, I'm fine with it being aftermarket as long as it works, also you think thats the one? the $33 one? even though it says its for an 800 rfi? Also I'm not totally sure what you are talking about in regard to the orifice size?

Ok, so what I see is your 96 GTX needs part#274000316

A 1996 Seadoo XP uses 276000134 or 274000838(old part#)

It could just be a different internal spring or the brass fitting that the valve mounts to on the water box. That brass fitting has a different size orifice (hole thru it) which will also control water flow. So, technically you could just swap those over from your old one. I have looked thru all my WCV's and see that on a 951 powered ski the inlet hole for the WCV is larger in diameter.

But..........I would probably gamble on the 134 valve, but that is me.

Ok not 100% certain. With the lower water inlet tube having a larger inside diameter

hmmm ok well i emailed that guy on ebay idk if he will be able to help, but i asked him if those two tubes are the same diameter or not, on the $33 one

I can tel by looking at the pic they're different size, also being for an RFI which is a later ski it will be larger than a 96 which had the smaller one. The question is, will it still work. If it stops raining today I'll try and get a look at my 98 SPX.
