Added moisture from your cleaner got trapped inside the cover and condensed then was forced inside your gauge, same principle as a pressure cooker.

Make sure both your ski and cover are dry before putting your cover on, if the inside of your cover has mold means it’s stored wet.
 
Start saving up for a new gauge. Moisture in the gauge will eventually kill it. If you store it outdoors, maybe place a tarp over it (in addition to a full cover) to do as much as possible to keep it dry. You could also cut a strip of clear packing tape to cover the crack (once it's dried out as much as possible).
