Guys, I'd appreciate any input on this, I've been trying to figure it out for 3 weeks. Let me start by saying this is the first seadoo I've purchased. I have some mechanical knowledge but haven't worked on any jetski's until recently. I'm letting you guys know this because of information I will reveal later in the post:footinmouth:
The project that wasn't supposed to be a project:
2000 Sea-Doo gs 717
Problem: No power anywhere except battery
New Parts: battery, starter, solenoid, positive/negative battery cables, ignition coil, mpem
Have good main grounds everywhere
No power transfer from solenoid
My next step was to order another DESS post which I did today being that's what completes the solenoid circuit. I do have a good ground on the DESS post so I'm not sure it's bad. Then again I'm not sure about anything at this point..
OK confession time:
I've learned a ton but like I said I'm new to this..
Mistake#1
At the time I didn't know what a DESS key was, I left it on the ski after I bought it and it flew off on the way home. Before doing any research because I'm an impatient bastard sometimes I thought I'd just thread the wires together and bypass the key.. I got a red light to come on.. impulsive supidity..
Mistake#2
This is probably the mistake that screwed me.. the battery seems dead so let me put this car battery jumper on it.. battery and starter got hot..

Like I said I replaced all that, even the mpem, I've looked through the wiring thoroughly and NOTHING looks burnt or anything like that. The ski is old but it's really in good shape and supposedly only has 50-60hrs on it. So I'm hoping the DESS post finally fixes the problem, the wiring harness looks good but I guess that would basically be the only thing left. Any input/knowledge is much appreciated

First off, where did you get the new MPEM? Even without a key or DESS post if you push the start stop button the gauges will power up.

The Lanyard key has to be programmed to the MPEM, not the post.

The ski was in a shop a few weeks ago to get a new key programmed which I paid for but they also told me they weren't getting power to anything so I don't know how that works.. Got the new mpem on ebay (atv-plus), it's not supposed to need a key programmed." This MPEM does not require programming a dess key to it. It only uses the dess key for contact on the dess post to energize the starting circuit, so any dess key will start the PWC". Also, this model just has a fuel guage, doesn't even have an hour meter and it doesn't do anything

There are two 15 amp fuses, did you check them both? One is inside a cover with a 5 amp fuse and the other is inside an cap assembly by itself.

Those are aftermarket mpems. I personally have had zero luck out of them. Minnetonka4me on here has the one you need. He programmed some keys for me a few years back.

Fuse are located 2 on the mpem(5&15) and one by the solenoid all under small caps.

I definitely checked all fuses and grounds before buying a new mpem. I have no power being transferred at the selonid. Mwat65 I'm thinking you're right about the aftermarket mpem, I should have a new dess post Tuesday but if the mpem doesn't work that's not going to help me. I really don't think there's anything wrong with my oem mpem, I don't think the stealership actually programmed a key, but I should still be getting some kind of signal from the fuel gauge right? Unless of course the that is bad. I'm thinking about sending off the oem mpem/key to be checked/programmed, do you guys know who I can send that to, minnetonka4me?

Whether the dess is working or not when you press the start button everything should light up.

We are going to keep telling you that the aftermarket mpem are junk.

You can send your original mpem to Minnetonka4me and he can test it and program a new key or sell you a tested good one if yours is bad.
