WANTED/LOOKING FOR: '99 Speedster: Left & Right Throttle Cable, FWD/REV Cable

Greetings Y'all., New here. Just spent an hour browsing through threads trying to find a solution.

Just as the title says. I've posted the parts that I need for my new sexy (and first ever) boat.

I checked seadoowarehouse, they are listed, but as per another thread where someone checked out a mirror site, they were listed, but they didn't actually carry them?? Waiting on clarification of her post.

Need to get these ordered ASAP. I might be in a position to order two or three of them in fact, as others I've spoken to locally can't source them. Could they really be this hard to find? I doubt it. Custom Shops should relish the opportunity to fill a parts void...one would think no?

Thanks for looking,

EDIT:

Updating this thread with all Part No's:

Fwd/Rev cable 204 170 058, but there are a lot of other parts included in the get-up. Thank you Capt Steve

Sea Doo discontinues making parts for older boats and they are obsolete. If you find it, its because someone had them left over sitting on a shelf. There isnt much of an aftermarket. There is a cable company that will custom make them. It might take me some digging for a while to find it.

So...The two places in the US (Same person quoted still works there., Paul & Vic) can still do it., err correction, are happy to entertain POSSIBLY doing them.

They just need the actual cables shipped so they have a look see. Either that or at least some good quality photos., or best: Bombardier specs on the cables.

Does anybody have the specs? or can take good photos of these cables and email them to me?

The third place has two branches (perhaps more?) one in Dartmouth NS, and Mississauga ON (closer to me)., so I called them up, and same deal. They need the cable. They told me that barring any hiccups., they should be able to make it within a day. WOW!!!!

So I figure:
Me Overnight to them., +1
They make it in a day., +2
I provider prepaid return overnight waybill +3
I receive and take to guys to install. +4.5

That's not too shabby. Should I get the steering & Fwd/Rev done at the same time? one big overhaul? The fwd/rev is I have experience STIFF and was told it is also needing replacement...not sure if they're just padding my bill. I asked them to lubricate it-but was told that wouldn't do anything.

A question. Can anybody install these cables? or must they do it? At $80/hr labour., and they're telling me it's 2hours PER CABLE...that's not exactly my cup of tea. I'm surrounded by mechanic buddies, but well...you know how it is. I'm a n00b and just don't know better.

I'm a little bewildered here that in 48hours I've been able to find THREE potential fabricators for these cables, when the "trustworthy" Seadoo place in town (and a few other dealers in the greater area echoing the same scenario) have told me that they've been looking for THREE YEARS now as someone else has a Speedster and it's been put out to pasture, because they can't find the owner the cables. So the gentlemen at the shop seemed keen to remind me that if I do find a place, to let them know, lol.

Being in a pinch to have my boat repaired (CHEAPEST!!), I'm not so willing to supply that information for free, am I bad for that? I figure it's worth at least a couple hours of free labour for them if this truly pans out. I mean., consulting is a profession in and of itself no? I should be compensated for being resourceful enough to serendipitously find this forum, and know how to tease the info out yes? Don't worry, those who helped me as well...An Extra Large Timmies + Dozen Donuts on me, if you're ever in town :) (the status quo thank you gift for us Canadians :) ). I just don't know how to avoid having to say "I don't want to tell you" when I ask them to take out the cables for me when I go in, in the next few days. How do I diplomatically say "I'll tell you if it pans out"? Without leaving it open for them to ask where/who anyway? In fact, I was happy to just have the custom fabricator make me a dozen of them in a shot, and then resell to some dealers LOL.

It is tough to get any of these cables. It is only because of the work of people on here that I knew it could be done. If you have the opportunity to get them made, I would take advantage of it. To get the throttle cables and shifter cable all off at the same time would be fairly easy, so you might as well get them made. The cables cant really be lubed. You never know if there will be someone around to help if they break again in the future, so you might as well have them all made. Keep them stored at home in case they ever break.

As far as dealing with the dealer, I would either get an extra set made and offer to sell them for $500 or work out a deal where they remove the cables and reinstall the new ones for free in exchange for the info. The time quoted to swap them is ridiculous. I bet you could swap all of them in 2 hours total.

Whatever you do, try to convince who you get to make the cables that they need to retain the specs on how they make them. Then ask them if it is ok for us to post all the info on here for future reference. There really is no other alternative and rather than junk a good boat, people would be more than willing to do business with them.

OKay! So I will get all three done.

What about steering? I didn't have an issue with that, it was smooth. Just the throttles & the fwd/rev was uncomfortably stiff to move into fwd, and a little tough to get back to idle.

I like the way you think :). $500 sounds steep LOL...but hey., that's what consulting costs ;). I think getting them installed for free + a tune up & maybe a lifetime 50% discount on service would be nice too? no? pushing it? hehe. I'm an honest & fair guy. Their first born would be great :).

Assuming not: 2hours myself eh? So any of my buddies can do it? Just run the cable through the side of the boat. Pull out., feed to the thingy, and then connect hoses & run engines & calibrate? LOL? My dad's friend did mention he had a buddy who did this on the side. I'm sure he will help out. Only an hour away, worst case.

Good point about retaining specs. I am thinking of putting in a bulk order anyway., if there's interest I will definately try to negotiate a better price for the larger order. & yep., definately for referring on this site. That's exactly it. I mean, there has to be a cable manufacturer in Ottawa. They can't be that uncommon? I'm surprised an aftermarket Seadoo interested supplier hasn't looked into picking up the void themselves already. Strange really.

I wouldnt worry about the steering for now. mine still looks brand new. I havent replaced mine but I have had it apart with the controls pulled up out of the boat. Looks very easy to do really. You dont really even have to run the cables. Disconnect the old cables at the levers. Attach the rear end of the new cables. Goto the engine compartment and pull on the old cable. As you pull it out, it will pull the new cable into place. There are still cables available for most of the other boats, but for this one, the cables are very hard to find. SBT stocks a lot of the cables for most of the boats. They even have the steering cable for this boat, just not the throttle or shifter.
