So I replaced my boot, pulled apart the slider assembly, cleaned it and greased it, replaced the fuse and low and behold the trim works.

No indication of position since the magnet was rusted away. If I go up the trim motor will turn until the slider bottoms out and the 7.5 amp fuse blows.

What else do I need to fix to stop this?

You would have to replace the magnet and hope it works as the actual control inside the unit are verry common to go out.

Also keep in mind that the blowing fuse has been know to fry your expensive MPEM.
