I need some help please I have a 2005 sporster le di and I had a problem with a single beep every minute ( a code 5 ).I tested the battery and it was low 12 volts exactly so i charge it up and load tested it and it passed. So i was wondering how to test the voltage regulator and or stator.
Thanks for any help

Been there, exactly. I just sold a 2004 Sportster LE DI with this same problem. I couldn't beat it. Here is some light reading on the subject. Notice about half way down the thread I jumped in and hijacked it, but same problem:

I would advise getting a shop manual for the procedure to check the stator output. I'm not good at describing. I have a good voltage rectifier here from that boat that I am going to sell. 20 bucks plus whatever it takes to ship.

Good luck,
Kevin

Yo Gents,
I have exactly the same problem on my 2006 Sportster. I get the Code 5 all the time. Funny thing is, if I charge the battery up with an external charger, and run the boat right away, the code goes away. The code comes back if the boat sits at idle for a day or two - even with the battery switch off. Really frustrating. On a whim, I ordered a regulator and just installed it. Haven't tested it yet. Nonetheless, I am curious how many others have experienced similar Code 5s on the two stoke Sportster - and if they got rid of it with a regulator changeout.

I realize that this is an old post, but if Budsyboo and Lightningtruck would reply with more details on their code 5, I would be grateful.

And - as my other post suggested - it was the regulator. So, for all your Sportster LE DI owners out there; code 5 could be a regulator. Don't do that I did (or rather, my dealership did) - swap out the MPEM at a monsterously ridiculous 2Gs, only to have the same damn code 5 come back only two months later. From this point on, my dealership and mechanic is Seadooforum.com.
