Hi All, any help would be appreciated.
I recently purchased a 1997 gs from a friend knowing it had some bellow issues. I rebuilt the bellow but during the first run it stalled but i was able to restart it and limp it back to shore with minimal power. After getting to shore i had no power at all and it would start. It now blows the 15 amp fuse in by the coil as soon as i plug it in. I like to believe i am pretty mechanically inclined but i am stumped now. I started with the ratifier and still would blow fuses right away. So last night while playing with it i unplugged the ratifier and tried a new fuse and it held and the ski actually started but ran rough. Again while it was running i plugged it back in and immediately it blew the 15 amp fuse. I am stumped now and ANY help would be greatly appreciated. also i check continuity on all the grounds from front to back and couldnt find a problem with them.
Thanks in advance
Jeff

It could be the stator as that runs through the voltage regulator and if it is shorted it will blow the fuse. Typically the regulators don't blow the fuse when they go out, they just make it run strange or don't charge.

As Miki says it’s probably the stator. I see a lot of 720s with metal particles from the starter causing the fuse to blow. Sometimes you can clean the stator sometimes they short out. Water in the stator area will do it also. Also check your rear ebox for moisture and corrosion.

Especially with the bellows issue . It may have had water enter the stator through the starter. That rear ebox may have gotten water in it also.
