Okay it smokes too much I think! I checked out the pump alignment and took this picture. I`ve seen a bunch of pictures and there all different!! I see most have a line on the bump at 12 o`clock , but the manual seems to have it at about 11 o`clock off the bump. In my picture of my pump there seems to be a mark just to the left of the dial mark, off the bump! Is this correct? What do you guy`s think?
Thanks Steve

Yes, it seems that you are out of alignment.
I think it needs to be tighten, but check it out to be sure.
either way make sure the 2 line marks are aligned to each other.

That should help with the smoking but what OIL are you using?....must be a full synthetic type. Amsoil Interceptor is low smoke.

Yes I use XPS!! Does it look to you that it should be turned counter clockwise a smidgen? I think thats a mark!

Yes, the pump arm is out of position, too the lean position, which may actually deliver high flow at idle b/c of the way the pump spindle valve is constructed. That cable needs to be tightened so the mark on the pump lever matches the (barely discernable) mark on the pump body which is the same position as the corroded purge screw above. The line on the pump lever should point to the center of the corroded air bleed bolt, the round boss just above the lever has a barely discernible mark on it, only a small nick that should be a visible line.

So in order to put the arm in the correct position, you need to rotate the adjuster counter-clockwise. Looks like almost 1/4 inch out of position from the photo, it's way off to the lean position so far it's back into the rich area.

But first you need the idle to be set and then you can set the pump to the right spot.

I believe a good starting point is to turn the idle screw in 2 turns from when it touches and then set the oil pump to line up the lines.

After you get it in the water and running, set the idle and then shut it down. Then check the oil pump alignment, re-set the oil pump if necessary.

That's what I remember reading in the manual.

But yeah I think its so lean that its acting like your cable snapped and thats giving you full flow at idle.

Okay so tighten the cable till the line is straight up at 12 o`clock okay, But that seemed to me to be putting more oil in the motor???

Stop overthinking it, the pump lever is grossly misadjusted and I believe is so far out of position it's nearly back to full open. Either that or you've got oil in your fuel or the oil pump is malfunctioning.

Get the oil pump adjustment right, recheck your idle speed and if you make any idle adjustments then go back and check the oil pump again.
