Is the vacuum solenoid on an xpdi different from that on an older carbed 951. They look the same however one is black and one is green. Now that I have the black one off of the carb ski on, I can't hear the air injectors going after the motor is shut off. Is this because the solenoid is different?

I think you're asking about the RAVE solenoid.

For DI, when the engine is shut off, the MPEM energizes the RAVE solenoid thus should actuate the RAVEs.

Maybe that's where something has changed, perhaps your defective green solenoid was leaking air to the atmospheric vent instead, and not actuating the RAVES? It should hold 15psi of pressure on the inlet port of green solenoid when it's not energized, not leak it off. Then when energized that pressure should release to the RAVE port to actuates the RAVEs.

I'm not sure really what the differences in solenoids might be, if any.

Yeah that is what I changed. But before after shutting the engine off I would hear something energize twice and I'm not sure what that was because now It doesn't do it

I recall the service manual mentions this cycle of the RAVEs at shutdown, which is a method to confirm the RAVEs and REVE solenoid is operating. I don't recall if this happens twice, but I believe the solenoid also has an LED on it that illuminates when it's being energized by the MPEM.

Thus, perhaps the black solenoid isn't being energized by the MPEM at shutdown, and possibly the electrical connector is configured differently?
