I own a 98 Sea Doo Sportster 1800. I have a black lever under the drivers side and I beleive it is to block seaweed from getting sucked up into the jet drive. Is this correct? Or if not what does it do and how do I use this? I just bought the boat and was wanting to go to an area that is known for having seaweed but wanted to know how to use this option. thanks

That lever isnt to block anything. It is for the intake grate. Think of the grate as being a web of fingers over the intake. If sticks or debris gets caught in the intake, you pull that lever and the fingers drop down pushing the junk away. It works best if you stop the boat, pull the lever and go in reverse while you move the wheel back and forth. It clears it pretty good usually.

Are You planning to boat Buckeye Lake?

Stay away from the Peat Bogs or whatever that stuff is.
While the Boat is on the trailer, have someone pull the handle and get under
the boat to see just what it does. It might keep sticks with leafs from getting
to Your Pump but not sea weeds. Its to soft. Maybe a large clump of sea weed.
You will notice a reduced speed and at that point You have lost ability to cool
the Engine. Shut it down! Then pull the handle several times. When the grate
comes down it will pull some of the stuff loose. I have used a dock line to clear
the bottom. Myself and a helper hold the ends and toss the line over the Bow
and use a saw type motion while keeping the line tight to the bottom and move
to the stern. Hopefully any thing inside the Pump will get chopped up and shoot
out the nozzle.
Good luck and what part of Ohio do You live.
Patrick.
