I will try to get the pics on of the extending part with a
plunger and diaphram. Maybe it is a carb bowl. I don't
know, but I do need the diaphram. Does any one know?
Thanks for the help.

What model Sea Doo do you have?

Your info shows you have a 1996 Challenger. This boat does not have the part your are looking for. It is an accelerator pump assembly used on Sea Doo's from about 1998. The twin carb models (like the GTX LTD) had them on the PTO carb and the single carb skis (like the GTI) had them on the single carb. The only way to replace the diaphragm is to replace the cover, diaphragm and pump arm. The part number from Sea Doo is 270500391. Get ready though, the retail is about $240! You may be able to get just the diaphragm directly from Mikuni through your local dealer.

1997?

The first year for the Mikuni Daiphragm BN 40i-38 carb with the accelerator pump, according to the shop manuals of the 1996 and 1997, was on the 1997 Challenger but I believe it was at a time when the first 97 models were built, they didn't use them. Only later into the manufacturing year did they change over to the accelerator pump model carbs. Which would explain why the last 97 I worked on had the other style carbs.
I did a lot of searching and found that, just as Don says, you cannot buy the diaphragm alone. The best price I got for it was $196.34.

I checked the parts fisch for a 97 Challenger and it is showing the pump on both the 5603 and the 5606 models for that year. Maybe she has a 97 and not a 96....
Sea Doo didn't start using them on the PWC's until 98 I think. I see more PWC's and very few Sport Boats. Most dealers around here won't work on them (earlier models, pre-4 Stroke) anymore.

I see!

I see what your sayin.....for some reason I equated her boat as mine. I thought it was a 97....but your right, she may have the 97 or someone who had it before her put the 97/98 model carbs on.
With the reading I did, it does seem that Seadoo switched carbs in mid year. I was a bit shocked to see the price of the dag gum thing and even called Babbitts on the phone to see if I could get just the diaphragm........they said it wasn't sold like that........
Thanks for the additional info Don...

Carb acc. diaphragm

:hurray:Yay, I found just the diaphragm from an online
store called: ad-discountperformance.com . It was around $15.00. I hope this also has the stem because it might
be tricky to attach it to the stem. I purchased
some other misc. carb parts which were the least expensive
so far. Do you think this may have caused my original prob.
with the motor cough? I do plan to time the rotor, if needed, as you suggested, it seems very easy.
I have dissassembled my carbs with one exception... there
is always something. I broke the stem of the high speed
adjust screw off down deep in the channel. It was frozen. I now have to bring it to work and get one of the guys to help me drill it out, or not. I may have to buy a rebuilt pto carb. If so, this time I will put on one without the accelerater part, if I can do that. I hope not. Another $200.
Well it should be reliable when you guys and I get done with it.
Thanks for pump info and all your advise.
