I have an XP that I just installed a new starter in. When I started it, it immediately rev'ed at high RPM. I turned it off immediately thinking that somehow the throttle linkage had gotten jammed. Checked cable, linkage at both carbs and found everything to be moving freely. I even tried adjusting the idle screws all the way in and all the way out. No change. I then looked at the rave valves and noticed the long vertical spring was missing on one valve and the retainer springs holding the diaphragms for each rave valve were twisted and partially out of the track. Could this be part of the problem? What exactly is the function of these valves? I'm afraid my inner stupid has surfaced :ack:

thanks.......I'll check that out. I did have to make my own gaskets when I remounted the carbs. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I just removed and cleaned my carbs, and had to engineer my own gaskets. Mine isn't racin. Did you double check your hose hook ups. If one of those are backwards it could be the cause. I agree with steve, you've got an air leak somewhere.
