I have a 95 XP 717 that a guy is interested in trading me a 94 SPX for. The trade is ski for ski plus he will buff out and detail the new spx and my existing 94 SPX. His SPX is in way better shape than my XP. My XP needs wet sanded, buffed, polished, decals stripped and replaced, vts fixed, vts and start button replaced, grips, fuel lines, acrazy good clean as hull is very moldy, a new seat cover, a new bar pad....etc. What do you guys think? This would give me a matching pair and my skis both cleaned up nearly mint. I could easily sell the SPX in spring for $1000 and I think it would go faster than my XP as is if I did sell it to potentially buy a 787. Plus I wouldn't have to worry about trim fixes lol

So thoughts??

Really depends on what you value. The spx won't be an x4 hull so does not handle as well. I'm not sure you'll get 1k out of a 94spx though. I sold a mint 93 xp which is the same ski with a trailer and had a hard time getting 900 out of it this summer.

94 SPX is still X4. Its same hull as my xp and other SPX.

I mean by trading I'm really sacrificing. The bigger motor for a ski that doesn't need me to put any money into it. The XP doesn't sell with me dumping another $500 into it when I could get a cleaner ski for less

The 94 spx is not an x4 hull. Just look at the back of the hull and compare them. The lower rear hull will be angled and not have the replacable trim tabs. A few other differences as well but overall they do not handle the same.

The 95 xp was the first x4 hull for both the 717 and the limited production 95 xp800.

That's tough as it really depends on what matters to you and how you ride. In the few hours I rode my 93 xp with the 657 I noticed a very small power difference, but much different handling. The older hull really seemed to just like to do 360s all day. The x4 will carve better stock then its a whole world of difference with sponsons.

To me I'd be trading a less desirable hull and engine for one that I have less work making it look decent cosmetically. I'd probably keep the 95 and clean it up over winter especially since you can get the mats and seat covers for 50% off on the blacktip black Friday sale.

Otherwise I'd just figure out which one I could make the most $ selling to get a 787 x4. The 717 is fun, but the power difference is pretty big when going up to a 787 and I've seen lots of good winter deals on them already.

I am used to the power of my GS and that left me wanting a little more. My buddies SPX is fun but there were time I was hauling and I turned and it dug and 360'd unintentionally. I guess for me I'm thinking about it and going well I won't have to spend any money on the SPX but I am gonna want more. The 720 is a strong runner just has a lot of loose ends to tie up. It also already has I believe worx or some aftermarket sponsons on it. This is tough. Like I said my end goal would be a 787 XP I just don't know what steps to take to get there
