Well, here is the verdict... Rear cylinder 130psi, front cylinder 30psi. This sucks! Talked to the dealership and they said between $600 and $700 to do a top end rebuild. Does this seem reasonable? I dont think this would be anything I would want to tackle on my own. Or could a blown gasket be a possibility, because it still idles then dies when you give it throttle.

Also, I talked to another dealership and they said they wouldn't do top ends because the the cranks always go right after a top end. So they told me they would put in a short block for $1700. Theres no way in heck I'm gonna do that to a ski this old.

Any input???

Thanks
Ryan

Short block...

Yeah, and for $1700 bucks, you could buy the same engine they are going to get, probably from SBT for about $895 bucks..... You can get a new remanufactured engine and drop it in with a little help....

I just dont have enough money to buy an SBT with shipping and insurance. Then I'd have to pay someone to line it up for me, since I do not know anyone that works on ski's. After all said and done I would probably have $1200 into it, and thats more than I paid for the ski. So I was kinda leaning towards a top end from the dealership for around $600-700. Does that price seem reasonable?

Thanks

No rebuild... The mechanic took apart my 720 and said, "I've got bad news." Water got into the crank case and rusted the cam and both pistons were pretty scored up along with a blown ring... Monday morning I'm ordering a $745 SBT and should have it by Thursday, and hopefully installed by the weekend. Wish me luck :willy_nilly:

Another thing, SBT recommends that when I install the new motor, I should block off the oil pump and go to pre-mix... I dont really want to mess around with that hassle. Is it really necessary?

Thanks

It's up to you

The block off kit is a plate, 2 screws. Pretty simple!

Your're going to have folks here that swear by the VROI (oil injection). They work well as long as you maintain, and service the system and your ski properly.

With the block off kit, you will still need the oil tank and a line hooked up to the rotary valve. It still needs oil. The biggest drwback to premixing is the cost involved. You will use twice as much oil. Some say you will foul plugs a lot. I'm premixing in my 787 GSX and my 951 GTX LTD. I have the luxury of an Academy 2 minutes away from the house and they sell the Mystik brand synthetic oil for $19.99 a gallon. I put 20 hours on the GSX last summer with it and 5 so far this year. I put a new set of plugs in last year and a new set this year. I haven't had any issues (cross my fingers). I'm lazy so I pre mix. It's your call. At least with pre mix you know if your getting gas your getting oil.

When I start the break-in procedure with the break-in oil mixed with my gas, can I still run on oil injection?

Thanks

Sorry, crankshaft.... when the mechanic took the heads off and rotated the crank, it was making a grinding noise. He said water got in there and rusted it up...
