My tach would only work when i jiggle the plug, it wasnt the plug from the harness but the plug that goes into the tach, so i took the tach apart and checked continuity between the pins it looked good, put it all back togeather and it will only work still when i push up and down hard on those prongs, its not the plug because i cut off the plug and wired the 4 wires right to the prongs.. any help?

Crack

Must be a hairline crack in the board, or a solder joint. Have a good look at all the solder joints with a magnifying glass. If you find a crack you may be able to re-solder it, but if it's in the board will likely need a new tach.

:agree:

I had a similar problem with another component, and I just resoldered everything that I could. And it worked fine afterwards. Of course you would need a soldering iron. If you don't have access to one, you can get a cheap version for a lot less than the cost of a tach.

Make sure you use a fine tip on the iron... some cheap irons come with broad tips that aren't suitable for soldering electronic components.
