Things to check before using a abandoned jet ski

If it has gray fuel lines then they need to be replaced, the carbs rebuilt with genuine mikuni kits following the sticky post at the beginning of this forum. Clean the fuel strainer. Change the jet pump oil and check the condition of the bearing, impeller and wear ring and pressure test it when done. Inspect the oil lines, especially the small ones the run to the carbs and replace if brittle. Adjust the oil pump and idle speed. All that should be done before using the ski if it sat a long time and you have no history of maintenance. There are other normal maintenance items listed in the shop manual.

Also if the gas and oil are of unknown age or unknown oil type, drain them out (tanks and crankcase) and flush the tanks if dirty. Also change the oil filter.

Also, take the plugs out, ground the plug wires and then roll the engine over with the starter. I do this as a precaution in case the crankcase is flooded with oil
