i am looking into fixing the VTS on my 96 XP ,I have tested the motor and it spins, what should I do next> While searching I read that someone said to go to thetrimfix.com and try that for a solution? Anyone know anything about this??

I also have a 96' XP and my VTS box fried. I looked into all the option (including the Trim Fix) and ended up going with the HX model manual adjustment setup. Took all that electronic crap out of the machine and now I barely ever feel the need to adjust the trim. If you don't have trim you won't miss it, the Doo is so small and light that it isn't that necessary.

It's true that once you have the trim set you rarely need to reset it, however if the trim is not adjusted properly the ski will be very hard to steer and you can actually loose 3-4 mph off the top end. Mine is set just a tad above the neutral setting. Also the trim if much more critical on a small ski.

yea I ended up getting rid of the GTI's, remember I was asking about the XP's week or so ago Lou. Well the trim works on one of them, and it seemed to make a difference in rougher water, or if I wanted to play I trimmed it all way up, i never noticed it any harder to steer anywhere I put the trim, when you say a tad above neutral, would that be the mark above on the gauge? Is where you have it set at still good for jumping waves and 180's too?

For me it is, I'm not a big guy 5'6" about 165 lbs., it will vary according to how you ride, where you sit on the ski. That's why it's nice to have the VTS operational at least for the initial setup. Mine is set just a touch above neutral on the gauge. I find at least for me if I set the trim deeper the steering gets stiff, or the RPM's decrease.

trimfix is a well known solution, and it does work.
it can also be done for under $20 with parts from radio shack if your into electronics and stuff, pm me if you want details on that...
I also pulled my entire VTS and put in the HX manual trim, i never adjust it, its just a hair above the middle. I miss trim about as much as I miss reverse, its nice when you have it then you just learn to adjust....and eventually forget.

you can move it to the spot you want while you decide if your going to replace/repair it.

how do I tell where a hair above middle is if the gauge doesn't work on this one? And yeah I would be interested in trying to fix it with stuff from radio shack if I could do it

Yeah I'm not a big guy either Lou, lol, 6'2 but also only 170 lbs, I will mess with it some more, how fast can I be going and be able to turn this thing without flipping over or wrecking? It handles completely different than the GTI's I had. like for right now I have been going just a little speed and then cut it hard to do 180's, but I am already ready to start playing a little harder on it, but I don't want to flip it and damage anything, or myself for that matter, lol. I can tell for sure it corners wayyyy better than the GTI's, and I have made myself get off get back on it in the lake so just in case I did fall off I could get back on it. Ok back to the VTS fix though, I went out and messed with it some more tonight and this is what I have found. The 705 fuse was blown, so I replaced it, still had the motor out of the housing from testing it on the bench, put the lanyard on, and the motor constantly runs? What does that mean? Also another problem while we are at it, is, the speedometer just stays on 15 all the time, it worked some at first, but then just got stuck at 15 or so and stays there, even with lanyard off. And the gas gauge doesn't work , but I know that is in the fuel baffle just like the GTI's.

flow... pm sent re: radio shack :) but was rejected, your inbox is full due to the ridiculousness of this forum having a 30 pm limit...

re: riding,,, just gradually work up speed and hit the corners hard, assuming your running stock sponsons you can work your way from 180's to 360's by learning how and when to throttle out of the spin, and weight adjustment. Just hold on and go ! You can turn on a dime, don't sweat it.

Rule #1 remember to let go if your getting tossed, better to toss the captain than flip the ski.

there is a gas gauge fix sticky up there if I remember, it will likely solve your issue there.

the speedo ? (well this is just me) screw the speedo, its not that accurate anyway. but if your anal about stuff the problem is likely in the wheel not spinning freely or missing blades or sticking, you can look into replacing the unit, but IMO its a waste of time/trouble, a handlebar mounted etrex gps will give you speed thats more accurate and track your total miles as well, assuming that its important to you.

I gave up on the speedo maily cuz the first hull modification I did was toss the 3 gauge hood in the dumpster and put in a single gauge hood with info center only, so that solved my speedo problem... my tach was replaced with a TTO so the RPM problem was solved as well :) My Tach tells me how fast i'm going,, i idle at 5mph, 4500ish is 35mph, and 7K is 60mph... easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Spimothy... have you ever had off readings with your tto, do zip tie it to a plug wire? Mine seems to fluctuate, not sure if the ski our the gauge and the wires bouncing loose. since you mentioned it here thought I would ask.

Op.... I personally love trim. I play with it all the time. Hitting big waves trim up, way better jump.

You could try the cheap fix radio shack fix, doesn't with go with the trim fix.

zipped to a plug wire yes, and mine bounces in mid range, i thought it had to do with the water injection.

my trim is long gone ! I pulled the working unit completely.. in the pic below on the bottom left you can see all that's left, a 1 1/4 bilge plug :)

yes i run factory pipe, but that just a stock waterbox painted all pretty :) ,,, gave it to a buddy to paint along with painting my head and he decided to make it a "firebox" , so he put flames on it... (don't ask lol) and no water regulator, that's another thing I tear out immediately :) hard jetted.

I wanted the head to match the waterbox, only cuz I think purple is ugly ! but with the VTS removed its a lot cleaner in there, helps me keep track of my rats nest of wires & hoses :)

Thanks for all that info Spimothy! I will erase my inbox so you can send me that PM. And that was first thing I noticed in pics too Thumper, was no regulator, and what is that filter for?

Yeah Spim, are you using an OEM oil filter for a strainer? If so I like it, FPP wants $90 for the billet one.

yes, thats a standard oil filter off another doo... I know the water filter discussion has been brought up before and i'm going against conventional thinking by having one. However, IMO that applies to a stock cooling setup, my thinking was with all the jets I have (3 total i think) those are pretty small holes and easy to clog, so I added the oil filter about a yr ago., i had recently asked again about putting in a screen filter or something like that, a catch, the idea was shot down, so I left it as is.

my buddy has that billet filter, its pretty sweet but he paid 75 way back when, but it is nice, you can take it apart for inspection and cleaning, i'm just too cheap.

I contacted watcon and talked to zigler about factory filters, they have one that looks pretty much like the seadoo oil filter, so I ordered one of those to replace this but honestly I think i wasted $18. I've talked to a couple of hard core tuners, they had no issues with me using the oil filter.
