Hi all. I know there was a thread last year that I looked at regarding the temp sensor, port side, and how it related to fuel consumption. Took the Challenger out and found that the fuel was going by quicker than I remmeber. Problem is I can't find that thread. Can anyone tell me exactly where the sensor is located, and what I need to do to replace it. I remember something about a sealant that should be used when re-installing the new one.

Thanks

I have located it. I actually spun this out by hand. I don't think that I should have been able to do that, so that may have been a problem anyway. And I am surprised that it is plastic.

It's on the port head.

You know... that's probably one of the best bit's of advice for the Merc engines. I'm going to sticky it.

I changed the Temp Sensor almost two years ago, sorry to say it did not make a difference. I have learnet to start the boat by keeping the wheel turned to one side or another, as you know this activates the throttle, give it more air bacause the ECU is some how thinking the motor is cold and is giving it too much fuel. I have chacked the connections for the Temp Sensor and they appear clean and secure. Basically I have given up! would like to know if some one finds a solution.

Yes I think that's the one. It's a water temp sensor on the top of the starboard head if what I read it right. I haven't taken mine off so I'm not sure about the spring loaded mount. I can tell you that when I replaced my head temp sensor, there was a ground and 3 wires. One wire had the female connector so that was obvious for which word it hooked up to. The other 2 are both male connectors and are the same color on my boat so I guessed wher each went. I noticed my boat then ran super rich (very smokey) when it was hot so I figured I had the wires reversed and it was never sending a warm up signal to the efi so I swirl itched then and it immediately stopped smoking excessively next run. Just a thought when you said it was running rich.
