Looks like I have a dead Tach, curious if anyone has purchased an aftermarket tachometer for a seadoo before. I'm having a hard time finding an 8k RPM tach....

or how bout this one !

it says 6k on the gauge but they do make an 8k version

this would have been nice ,but i just drilled for a voltmeter on my speedster where the 12v outlet was.

i could have put this on one side and the voltmeter on the other! argh!

are you positive it is dead? when i bought my challenger the port side tach was not working; turns out the wires got pulled out by the storage compartment on my small challenger; just double check to make sure it did not come unpluged before you spend the money on a new tach

Check the wires first

Before you guys spend the $$$ on a new tach, have you ruled out the possibility of burnt/corroded/cut wires? If you have duel engines, you can swap the plugs from the back of the tachs and start motor. if the troubled tach moves, you'd save a ton of money. One of my tachs didnt work, i bought a new one and it still didnt work. Traced the wires, nothing was wrong with them. One the magnito of you motor is an electrical connector. Pull the black sleeve back and inspect the wires. Pull the plug out and inspect the plug also. The pic below is the one on my boat, I have a new one (5 bucks from the jet ski cemetary). As you can see one of the black wires is fried and inside the connector, the pin from that wire is fried.

MY 04' Sportster 4-tec Tach and Speedo are dead. So, installing a Tiny Tach sure looks like a cheap alternative!

Any advice on which model Tiny Tach of a 4-tec and how to install it? I.e. Can it be wired in using the existing tach's wires?

Before you go installing anything be sure you understand wiring diagrams and how your boat actually works. I have seen people get in over their heads trying to modify something and end up with a wiring mess. I find on these Seadoos OEM seems to be the best bet. But if you do end up modifing good luck.

The contact looks fine. I connected the port engine to the starboard tach and it works. This is what lead me to to the fact the port tach is toast.

While the boat was running the tach would jump from 1k to 8k and then finally just stuck at 2k and wouldn't move.

I would love an OEM tach, but they don't make them anymore. I wonder if the gauge out a 97 waverunner is the same size, I would probably work best, as it's designed for the engine.

that looks like a nice option , wonder if it will work.

did you ask them how many wires come out of it? also, is it illuminated?

usually on a tach wiring should be ;

12v+ source
ground
coil (tach lead)
Light source 12v+

on the tiny tach, they make several versions and i noticed on the ebay listing from the same person has several options.
