Support bracket for carbs using aftermarket flame arrestors

Hi All,

I was reading another post regarding Vortex flame arrestors where reference was made to a missing support bracket causing the intake manifold to crack. Since the original airbox setup uses a part that is removed when you install aftermarket flame arrestors, the original bracket, I assume, cannot be used.

I purchased my 96 GTX with the R&D flame arrestors on it by PO, and while I really wouldn't have opted to put these on myself, they are there and the ski seems to run good the way it is. Given that, I was not planning on replacing them with an original airbox setup.

However, since I really don;t want a cracked manifold, does anyone have a picture of what this support bracket you are supposed to use with the aftermarket flame arrestors looks like or where to buy one? Or is it something that has to be custom made? (If that is the case does anyone have pics of how they did it) Or is the only solution to remove the R&Ds and go back to a stock airbox setup?

Thanks

I was scratching my head over that post as well to be honest but considering that I sold my XP 3 years ago, I blew the remark off since I don't own a 2 stroke anymore.

I had proks on my xp and I don't recall any support brace (duly noted all I did was order them and hold the beer while my guy installed them, and that was around 2009)

Vortex really aren't significantly heavier, although they are heavier than proks.

So i'd like to hear more about this bracket as well.

Here you go from Group K,
"Air Inlet Modifications - There are many different “free-er breathing” aftermarket flame arrestors available for the 785 Sea Doo models. While they all have good performance abilities, very few of them include a “carb to head” brace. Without this import brace, there is a very high risk that the unsupported weight of the carbs and filters will cause the inlet manifold to fracture.
Since our GSX was not intended as a high rpm race machine, we opted to modify the stock flame arrestor case (which does have the much needed carb-to-head brace). We simply removed the fine screens from the arrestor element, and added a few air access holes on our flame arrestor lid. This modified part matched the peak rpms of a set of aftermarket “pods”, and offers considerably better water protection.

In this picture you can see the two threaded tabs that the support brace bolts to.

Thanks Miki and Spim.

I have a set up like Spim shows in his pic, therefore the part you are showing with the threaded tabs to mount the bracket to is not there. I have the two individual conical shaped flame arrestors. Maybe I'll start looking for a cheap deal on a stock airbox and hardware, but as good as the ski is running now the way it is, I'm hesitant to start screwing with things. Maybe this off season I'll do that.
