I'm adding a small "loading dock" between my 2 ski ramps (you can see the ramps in my avatar picture) to make it easier for my wife (yeah and me, tuff getting old) to get on and off the skis. I used to just drift the ski in and it would go up the ramp a foot or so, just far enough to hold it in place while getting off. But since I added the Glide Strips to the ramps last week, the skis just drift back into the water. The shore bottom is really muddy there so its pretty messy steppin off into the water. So I decided to extend a platform (actually a wood form filled with smooth flat river rock) a couple feet out between the 2 ramps that will be about even with the end of the ramps in the water. The platform will just be 30" wide. Now instead of pulling onto the ramps, we will pull up next to the platform to unload. I was looking at Overtons for a bumper to put on the front edge, but the cheapest thing I see is $30 for a 6' section. I figure there got to be a way to pad the it for $5. I have some bunk carpet but figure that would scuff the hull, plus the flatform will only be at water level, so the edge I'm trying to pad will be water level or below. When the bottom gets stirred up the mud tends to accumulate on the carpet which I'm guessing then makes kind of a sandpaper effect. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks
