Hi guys, I have islandia 2001, yesterday I was having throat for around 10 miles. On speed around 17mph when suddenly the engine stopped.

I checked the engine temp and it was very hot. Specially the part between the two exhausts.

I left it to cool down for about 30 min then I took it slowly to the port.

**knowing that my temp alarm is not working, I'm waiting for it to be replaced.

But I need to know if it's normal to be overheated??

I don't think you can judge by hand if your motor has overheated or not. During normal operation the engine will still be very hot to touch. Does it pump cooling water out the indicator? If it started again, how does the motor run? Are you able to do a compression check?

Please notice that I just changed the pistons for this engine and it's running now for around 5 hours only and that was the longest travel distance after the refurbishing

I am not familiar with the Mercury motor but it should squirt water from below the aft towing hook as an indicator of cooling.
