while idling at the boat dock the engine sucked up a tie off rope,, still hanging out the bottom where the rake is,,how do i get this out ,and has it caused any damage?? please help

I don't know how to get it out but I did the same thing last year--chewed up the rope pretty good but no damage to the boat.

I have a question for you though--does your boat actually sit still when it idles? Mine creeps forward (enough that I only use idle to bring it into dock).

If you can see it and reach it, pull it out.
A rope is soft so it may not have done much damage. Get under the boat w/ a flashlight, look at the intake and outtake of the impeller and look for noticeable damage to the vanes and wear-ring. if you get the rope out, any remaining debris should hopefully pass thru

Lambert,

your boats impeller is always turning, even when in neutral (obviously when the boat is running). So there is always water moving out of the pump(s). When in neutral a "gate" covers and re-directs the water from the pump so that it's not pushing you forward. But you might need to look at the "gates" and see if they are properly adjusted for forward/neutral/reverse.

As far as the rope in the intake. When you get the boat out of the water, take off the intake grate and reach your hand in there and try to remove or cut the rope out of there...

hope this helps,

Ryan
