Stripped Set Screw and Broken Airbox

I need some Macgyver ideas to fix two issues that I have ran across on this gsx limited that I am working on. One is the airbox is missing the metal tab so the clip on the carb wont latch. Does anyone have a extra tab from a box they removed? The second is the top set screw that holds the choke rod was missing because the brass is stripped.

Damn it, I just threw an entire airbox in the trash two weeks ago as I was tired of storing it for years.

You could try a larger tap and rethread the hole. I'd check the American Standard thread sizes as sometimes they work out well as they end up being "half sizes" for lack of a better term. :) That might get you what you need withing going too large or you may be able to re-tap without drilling (sometimes we get lucky :) ). You never know unless you give it a shot. Given the length of the tread I'd use "fine thread" if possible.. It doesn't take much pressure to hold that rod in place.

If you want be real McGuyver you would place a ring/collar on either side (drilled and tapped) and lock it in that way. Personally I"d re-tap to a larger size or replace the fitting if possible. Good Luck !!

I like the ring collar idea. There really is no way to tap the original fitting because the tap bottoms out before it can cut threads. Mine stripped too and fell out, but I was able to just thread another same size screw in it without tapping it. It will probably fall out again and I will eventually need do something like the ring collar. I can't remember, but I think I put loctite on the new screw because i know the hold wasn't real good.

Well..... a "bottom tap" would needed to rethread that hole. They are not very common in metric sizes. Someone might have carb parts for sale. Bummer.

So I looked at my extra set of carbs closer and I was wrong. It can be tapped all the way through. The fitting just isn't tapped all the way through the swivel and I thought it had bottomed out in the swivel area when I was trying to clean up my threads. Actually, I was just hitting the un-tapped area.
