Heres what Ive done so far
*
  1. adjusted/cleaned carbs and filter
  2. replaced plugs...gapped
  3. checked compression around 145 front and 140 back
  4. verified linkages/butterflies on carb good
  5. no grey fuel lines
  6. swapped complete air box from other motor
  7. swapped water valve on exhaust
  8. inspected exhaust system
  9. cleaned rave valves
  10. adjusted raves in/out
  11. checked impeller clearance to wear ring (within range)
  12. removed blue drive shaft protector that was a bit beat up
  13. carbon ring/boot inspected/adjusted
  14. checked drive shaft for bend (yes slightly but in range)
  15. changed oil for impeller
  16. swapped complete jet pump with the other side
  17. checked ground signal into magneto
  18. neutral switch is working properly
Any ideas... I was also going to check pickup coil but Im unsure which wires to test without the adaptor...

Red wire off with good rpms recifier, check the rave looking valve in the muffler tube, and also the hose connectors in this area, there is one which has a orfice drilled into it and when blocked the tuned pipe no longer works properly, clean it out with a wire hanger.

still 4k max in water

OK. I swapped water valve from other motor. I swapped regulator from other side. Also checked water lines. All checked good. Also checked pickup coil today 247 ohms (within range). Stator checked good. Contacts a bit dirty..I clened them. Ign coil resistance a little high. Will prob swap with other coil next chance i get. I had to retime ignition to get it to start a few weeks back... IS IT POSSIBLE IF THE TIMING WAS OFF A LIITLE THIS PROBLEM COULD OCCUR????

also seen small groove etched in rotary shaft. There is a little tit on the edge of my rotary valve that caused it

Hammer that tit flat, the way I read on this the static timing is set using the marks, then dynamic is thru dealer computer, what made you switch the timing?

why I reset the timing...

I have never seen this motor run correctly. I bought the boat without any knowing any of its history. It was missing parts. I had the top end rebuilt and did bunch of other things I listed above. I couldnt start the motor until I retimed it. When I did the timing it seemed like the rotary valve was a little off. Either a little one way or the other. I thought maybe tweaking it a little clockwise or counterclockwise may help . IM RUNNING OUT OF THINGS TO TRY...DO YOU THINK THIS MIGHT HELP??? ANY OTHER IDEAS??? THANKS

finally past 4k

The last couple things I did timing and exhaust lines. As I stated earlier I was gonna try to tweak timing unsure if it would help. When I took the cover off, the RV pulled loose also not allowing me to mark its original position. So when I put the RV back on it may have been put back in the same spot.. What I do think that fixed it was an adjustment I made to the big flex line coming out of the exhaust. It was hard to see but in the back corner it was bent in a way that partially closed it. I cut a couple inches off to relieve the pressure which let the tube expand back out. I also checked/cleaned all the other lines but really didnt find any other restrictions. Back to the lake not too confident these repairs would help but to my suprise it did. Hopefully this info helps someone with any similar problems. Thanks to those who helped along the way!!!
