Can someone tell me what a Stator is and what does it do?

The stator is a bunch of windings inside the front cover on the engines, as the magnets pass around it it produces electrical current which goes to the rectifier and is then used for charging the battery and running the machine. Do an image search and you will understand what it looks like.
