hello, new to the forum as i am new to seadoo's.

purchasing 2 seadoos this weekend. one 97 gsx and one 98 gtx both with 20hours or less. they have not been used since 2004, both were winterized and garage kept and covered the entire 6 years. not sure how to proceed prior to trying to start them, other than the obvious of battery and fresh fuel. any advice would and will be appreciated. thanks

Fresh fuel and batteries is a good start.

Chances are... you will need to rebuild the carbs, and you will need some new spark plugs.

I would take out the old plugs, and turn the engines over by hand, just to make sure they aren't locked up. Then... with the plugs out, and the wires grounded (orange connector on the mag housing) I would give it a crank. You may find that the oil seals have leaked, and the bottom half of the engine is full of oil. Once it's mostly cleared, put in the plugs, and see if it will fire.

Oh... also... you will want to change the filter in the oil line.

Same issue

My 92 sp sat 4 years with a new/rebuild engine. Only 10 hrs on it. I cleaned the fuel filter. It didn't have any gas. I bought a new battery. Everyone has told me I WILL need to rebuild the carbs. I took it the lake last week and ran it for 30 mins. Everything work fine, no missing/sputtering.

I'm I safe? Or is was it too early to tell if I need a carb job?

thank you Dr. honda

If it's running, then no prob. Most of the time, when they sit... the residual fuel may rust the carb internals, or you may find some of the ports plugged. (not always though)
