Starting Problems

I have a 97 seadoo xp with the 787 rotax. the problem im having was it does not always wants to start i pulled the plugs they were fine i checked them for spark no spark so i took apart the rear electrical box and started testing the coil and found that it wasnt getting power so i moved to the stator that was putting out the power. i'm just tring to see what i should check next i mean the only thing i havent checked is the front electrical box but sometimes when i put the plugs back in it fires right off so i don't know any suggestions would be helpful.

Hey pop. Welcome to the forum. Sounds like your not getting a good connection between the plug wires ans the plug. Try trimming off about a 1/4 inch of the plug wires and put them back on. Let us know how that goes.:cheers:

I gave that a try and it popped it off right away and i went to start it off again and nothing i checked the resistance across the coil and there is no resistance i always thought there was to be resistance there. is there any more ideas what about if i got new plug wires do you think that might help it but the wires have 4ohms of resistance. I have a shop manual and i'm not afraid to dig into it. Thanks guys.

To test ohms on the wire you have to remove the caps. The caps themselves are resister cap and will give you a reading of 4.48 K ohms.

End of each spark plug cable, spark plug caps removed should be 7.6 - 11.4 kΩ

Thanks for the help i will try that as soon as it stops snowing here. i did notice that there was a little corrosion on some of the cable ends so i'll cleam them off really good. As for the coil i just bought a new one and it has the resistance that you were talking about. Thanks for your help.
