Hi All,
New to the forum and looking for some help. My GTI-SE has been running great for the last three seasons that I have owned it. The last time I ran it was end of July. I put it on the trailer in the garage. This past weekend I was going to take it out, so I charged up the battery (holding a full charge) and tried to "test" start is on the trailer to make sure it would run. I got all the right beeping sounds when I inserted the lanyard, but when I pressed the Start/Stop button, I only heard a single clicking noise and what sounded like an electric motor/pump running for about 5 seconds...then nothing. Engine did not try to turn. I checked battery again and all fuses...they look good. Any thoughts on why I am having this issue?

Thanks in advance,
Michael in Atlanta

Bad starter relay. Take the rubber caps off and try arc-ing across the posts with a screwdriver (after lanyard is put on post), if the engine cranks over this way then the relay is bad.

Sometimes if you press the start/stop button repeatedly the relay will finally work and start the engine, but it's unreliable and should be replaced anyhows. Arc'ing across the relay posts with a screwdriver or wrench will probably cause the starter to engage and the engine will fire up. Try it.
