Saturday evening after a few hours on the water and everything was fine, we turned the engine off. After about 30 mins we attempted to start it. Just turned the key 2 times and gave up. NOTHING from the starter and the starter was HOT! Got a tow home.
Sunday we replaced the starter and had same result. Nothing from the starter. Attempted to jump starter by crossing the slave solenoid and we burned up the (yellow/red) wire going to the starter.
We replaced the wire and replaced the slave solenoid today. When we turned the key the yellow/red wire burned up again.

The yellow/red wire should be the ignition wire….

We are STUMPED as to what to do now. What do we check? What went bad to cause the original no starter problem? What’s wrong now that the wire keeps burning up?

Please give me your thoughts. I have a good service manual but the wiring is not the same. Black Red wires. Imagine that! 🤣IMG_2597.jpegIMG_2596.jpegIMG_2594.jpegIMG_2593.jpegIMG_2595.jpegIMG_2592.jpeg

Did you get your problem solved?
What happened to the original starter?

The solenoid on the the starter failed. It popped up to engage and didn’t retract. It burned up everything. That was the original starter problem.

Our other issue turned out to be the power line from the battery that was supposed to go to the starter had accidentally gotten wired to the slave solenoid.
🤦🏼‍♀️
That’s why I STRESSED looking at the service manual and wiring schematics! It was right there all along.

Hello, I'm new here and a recent Sea Doo Isandia owner (2004 Mercury EFI 240HP).

I've replaced the batteries and the spark plugs, but unfortunately, the Sea Doo won't start. I'd also like to replace the starter motor to rule out the possibility that it's defective. Which one should I use? Could you please help me with this? Thanks in advance.

@SeptemberC May I ask which one you used and where you got it? Thanks

@churcher - I live in Charleston, WV and there is a local company that REBUILDS the starter motors for a FRACTION of the cost of a new one. I bet you can find a business near you that can do the same.

What exactly is your issue? You turn the key and nothing happens? No click? Nothing?
What happened initially?

The better you describe the better we can help you.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I guess an aftermarket starter shouldn't be too expensive, but I'm just trying to figure out which one is actually the right one.

The Islandia won't start as described. When I try to start it, all I hear is a click, click, click... I guess the starter is broken, and the spark plugs and batteries are completely new.
