Speedster 98 shifter cable snapped

Today on the water I was in forward putting it in to neutral and I heard a snap and the shifter became loose to move up and down.

I pulled the shifter apart and found it like this in the supplied pics.

I don't really know what its supposed to look like in a functional state. The shop manual didn't really paint a good picture on how it functions imo.

Can anyone here with experience with these shifters and offer some advice if I need to order a part.....

I was just thinking, the jet gates are already stuck up and the shifter still detects when im in neutral and forward so all im really missing out on is the reverse function i suppose? i didnt even test it when i was out when it broke, i think we just idled back to the bank. i dont really care if reverse does not work lol.
replying to self, would recommend
