I have a 98 GTI, and the speedometer needle slipped below the stop pin. It tries to run, but can't get past the pin. How can I fix that? Can you remove the glass cover on the speedometer? Thanks!

I had the same problem on my 97 XP
I removed the speedo, drilled a small hole, moved the needle with a peice of wire then sealed the hole with silicone
Worked great

Thanks for the advice! So, I can just pull the speedo out? Where did you drill the hole...on the side or on top? Thanks...great advice!

Just unplug all the stuff
I don't remember what held it in there but will be easy to figure out once you look at it
I drilled the hole on the side

thats actually a pretty good idea, especially putting it on the side.

i think a flat head screwdriver is the tool of choice to the the gauge out of its fitting.

Thanks for the great advice!! Worked perfectly, and the speedo is working again. The flat screwdriver was perfect for pulling out the speedo from it's fitting. Again...thanks!
