Speed sensor question - 03 Sportster LE

I got a new speed sensor for my boat. The new sensor has 3 wires and the old one only has 2, do I only need to wire the 2 wires that match and leave the third wire off??

The third wire is for the water temp. Im not sure if the sensor will still work for your boat though. I tried a 3 wire on mine that originally had a 2 and could never get it to work. I ended up finding a 2 wire from someone here and fixed it.
