First… Great website, for so many reasons… I lost a random plastic screw head to my bimini top and had no idea where I’d be able to find one. Thought I wouldn’t be able to use the top for a while or would have to rig something up. Jumped on here and had one ordered in 2 min. Plus, everyone on here seems so eager to help others out.
I wanted to get some thoughts my plans before I put my 99 Sportster in the water and go all out for the first time.
I used my boat twice a month up until October of last year. I did not winterize, kept it under a carport, on the water, in south Louisiana through the winter. Pretty mild winter, got down to freezing over night, twice. I ran it on the hose 3 or 4 times from Oct to Feb. Cranked it up a few days ago, ran them for about 15 seconds then them off. Didn’t want to run it to long with out getting on here and making sure I’ve done everything I needed to before really getting it going.
Current gas and oil is from August. After reading posts I’m not clear if it’s necessary or just recommend to change these out…I am going to change the oil filter this weekend hasn’t been changed in a couple years, then after a short ride, change the plugs. I saw someone say this will help the new plugs work better.
I also saw many recommendations to grease the power take off hub and clean the rave valves.… I’m am no where close to a mechanic, but saw the detailed breakdown (with pictures) on here for the rave valves and am thinking I will give it a shot… Thoughts???
Still searching for a break down on how to grease the hubs at the PTO hub… is this something that’s pretty easy, or should I just break down and take it to a repair shop… which will keep me off the water longer, as I’ll have to save up some money before I can get it fixed.
Thanks for your time and HAPPY BOATING!!!
