Shop Manual question

I have a shop manual for my 98 GTX limited, just wondering why my manual refers to the 947cc engine when my machine is a 957?

Also as far as winterizing for my 957cc , all it specifies is to pour AF into the block via the water return hose, and wait till you see AF pour out of the "engine drain hose" (which they want me to pinch off) . My question is, How can the AF pour into the clear drain hose if it's pinched off?????

makes no sense to me?

The 98 GTX Limited has the 947/951 engine. So, I think what you mean to say is "my machine is a 951" not a 957. The 947 refers to the engine type. This is the official engine type per BRP. I assumed the 951 comes from the displacement which is 951.2cc for the 947 engine. But that theory doesn't exactly match up quite so well with some of the other engines.

The 787 actually has a displacement of 781.6cc, although you may see it occasionally referred to as the 800 engine and the 717 has a displacement of 718.2cc and will sometimes be referred to as the 720.

So why do the numbers referring to the engine type not equal the displacement. Don't know that one. Could be the engine types (717,787,947) were the rough target displacements and through design the final products never exactly matched up (718,782,951).

You will see the antifreeze back up at the "pinch" point. You don't pinch it off right at the spot it connects to the engine which isn't exactly easy to get to in the first place, so you will see it back up right where you pinched it off. You don't really have to pinch it off either, it is just easier to see that the antifreeze got to that point if you do. I use the pink stuff and have no problem telling when it drains through the hose.

That clears things up, thanks djredman, So if i don't pinch off that that clear drain tube ,should i just watch the pink stuff drain right through to the back? then i know i am good?
