shaft protector 98 sportster

anything special I need to know about replacing the shaft protectoron a 98 sportster. I finally just finished with the new wear rings and imellors but the shaft protector on the starboard side is broken. I have a new one in hand and it seems really simple, just wanted to make sure. Thanks in advance

Leave it off.....?

I don't know. Seems in a post some while back, the shaft had to be pulled to do the shaft guards. Most here usually leave them out. Something to consider.
