I have a 1997 seadoo xp. I am wondering if the handle bar grips off the new seadooo will fit.

Yes and no. The size is the same; but they changed the way the grips lock onto the handlebars. The old style OEM grips have a hexagonal piece at the end of the grip's inside that locks the grip in place. Go unbolt your grips and look inside of them to see what I mean. The newer grips have a completely different locking system.
I just found this out myself yesterday. I'd ordered a set of the new style grips to put on my 98 SPX and they wouldn't go all the way on because of the new lock style. This happened to irk the heck out of me so I decided to take a spade bit and remove the offending plastic from the inside of the grip. Now they'll slide all the way on but I've got to figure out a good way to secure the grips from twisting. I may epoxy a hexagonal nut to the inside of the new grips to match the old lock style. Failing that I'll probably just epoxy them to the bars.
To sum it up; they'll fit only after modifying either the bars or the grips.

Put a new set on my '97 SPX.
Used my '99 GTXL to make a template and cut the grooves in the handle bars.
The grips now lock on like the newer style.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I have a '96 GSX and I am wanting to do this same thing...
Does anyone have a picture of what modification(s) need to be done to the end of the handle bar/plug to make the new style grips "lock" in?
I was going to order some ODI Lock-On's but they come in 120mm, the stock handle bars are only 107mm of bar, so that means the ODI's wont lock on the end of the bar.
It seems the only grips that actually fit the stock bars, are OEM grips. The old style grips were pretty lame, but these new style grips look to be very nice.
Any help on adapting them would be apperciated.
