ok so i went to take it out for the first time today and as i backed up it was in the water on the trailer still but i took the seats off to see if everything was fine and this thing was half full with water and i shit my pants and pulled it out the water and took the drain plugs out and emptyed it..... so after it emptyed i put it back in the water to try again and it looked like the water was not comeing in but then i started it and it seams to be smokeing a lot idk if that is ok..... and also is it ok if the battery gets wet

main question is why would it take on so much water and is that normal if i woulda started it would it have took all that water out?

im new to this any advice is appreciated

Hard to say. Was the boat full of water to begin with? This may sound like a silly question, but if the hull was full of water to begin with, that would be your starting point. Maybe too vigorous of a bath when washing it? again, sounds silly, but I have to ask!

Carbon ring at the driveshaft might be suspect. This is meant to apply pressure to the sealing boot where the driveshaft enters the hull.

And you might have any number of leaks along the exhaust system. These are usually hole clamps that might need a little tightening.

If that much water came in at launch, it wouldn't be healthy to "blow it out" unless you knew exactly why the water got in there in the first place.

It was empty when I took it there I made sure idk it might be the drive shaft I didnt even turn it on and there was water like half but I checked the drive shaft becouse the otherday I hydrlocked it and I spun the shaft.it was sturdy didnt move at all but this was half full in like 20 seconds?

Pull the grey plastic cover over the drive shaft at the rear of the engine. Pull your seat and baffle and have a friend back you down the ramp while you are watching. 20 seconds is not much time to fill a hull half way so you will see it rushing in.
No problem giving the battery a quick rinse of fresh water.

the weird thing is when i pulled it out the water there was no water rushing out of it? i had to take plugs out to drain u would think it would go out same way it came in

I think JPX may have nailed the leak location. That's why I wanted you to pull the grey cover. The weight of your ski sinks it in the water to where it can come in around the drive shaft. When on the trailer though, that point will be higher than the water left in the hull. You need to run that engine to make sure you don't have water on your bearings.

Did it only fill with water when it was running? Check the exhaust pipe for rust holes.

no it was not running but the second time i backed it up i did not go as far just enought to the ski can suck up water and run on only back was in and no water was coming in but the first time i went all the way in ski was floating and was takeing on water so you guys think its around the shaft becouse that what im thinking what should i replace witch part its a 2000 gtx rfi

and is this fast to replace or is it a all day job?
thanks for your helps

If it is leaking around the carbon ring then you can usually fix it quickly(for a while) by loosening the clap on the rear of the accordian boot and sliding it forward a little then re-tightening the clamp. This puts more pressure on the seal.

You need to pull back on SS ring and remove a c-clip to get drive shaft out

And remove the grease fitting from the pto

If it isn't the carbon seal, it will most likely be the boot on the VTS linkage, Iv'e got a 97 seadoo gsx, had a similar problem, found the boot had some cracks in it and flowed water in quickly, repaired the boot, no more leak, might want to check how much grease you have @ the zirk fitting,if dry will also let water in. Hoped this helped.

ok i got a new carbon ring and o rings for the ring seal it feel a lot tighter on each other now but when its running is it ok for the carbon ring to move a bit and i will i kknow if engien is out of line?

Ok I found out the problem my exhaust was off the last clamp was lose at the end so the 3 in hole was pourin a shit load of water I fuxed it tightend the clamp perfect now
