ok so i had a bit of trouble with my skis over the holiday weekend as i posted in another thread but heres my new question.i have a 96 and a 97 gsx.the 96 i bought a new starter for the 96 last year(cheap ebay starter)that crapped out on me saturday along with the 97s on monday(oem).well the 96 starter i got has 9 spline bendix that i didnt notice until today after pulling the 97s which had 8 spline.now both skis have the same engines so shouldnt they have the same starter?now i dont know if the 9 spline is an enhanced version thats interchangable and made to work better or did i screw up and put the wrong starter on?im sending the 9 spline back tomm under the warranty it has but would like some info so i can get the correct one.another thing with it having an extra spline would it cause it to contact the flywheel when spinning the engine by hand cuz i had a grinding sound in the engine when i turned it but now i notice its gone with the starter removed.i kinda went over that issue in another thread trying to figure out what the noise was

Yes they messed with it. 95 800s and 96 800s use the 9 tooth. 97 and up 800s use the 8. They put another tooth on the ring gear so the starter didnt have to work as hard.
