I have a 2008 seadoo rxp x 255 that just hit 70 hours on it. Lately it has been running sort of different. It seems like something keeps slipping when i hit the throttle and try to accelerate. Its like it will slip and then catch again and accelerate just fine then repeats that process. Its not a very steady increase in speed, it tends to go for a bit when i hit the throttle and while I'm increasing speed it seems chuggish or like it is cutting out. It almost feels like when you're riding something and you are running out of gas but that is how it always feels when i am riding it. Its like a jerky feeling and not a steady acceleration.. It is hard to explain but i was just curious what everyone thinks the problem is? Im not sure if the supercharger would be going out already or if it is something as simple as changing the spark plugs. Nothing has ever been done to the ski, it is all stock and no rebuild on the supercharger yet since it only has 70 hours. Also will i be fine taking it out or should i get it looked at? Any input is greatly appreciated.. Please help me out! Thankyou.

Sounds like you are having Cavitation. Could also be a stripped spline issue in the driveshaft. But not likely based on your description.

Have you pulled the spark plugs and checked them/replaced them? Also, check all ground connections for corrosion.

The hours wouldn't make it seem like the engine needs new plugs, but the age and low hours does. Just my $.02.

I second this- mine 2005 ran fine when put it away for winter storage but was stumbling all over itself in the spring. New set of plugs solved it. There was 80 hours on machine when this happened.

don't take this out again until you have narrowed this down.

absolutely try new plugs.

your due for a SC rebuild as well, overdue.

What is you're max RPM's? +1 on the plugs for some reason 4tecs go very quickly thru plugs. +1 on the supercharger rebuild. Even though you are low on the hours you have passed the 2 year timeframe. Send it to PWC Muscle they just did mine and are very fast.

Superchargers need to be rebuilt every two years? How much does this cost? Is this something anyone can take off? Thanks.

Every two years or 100 hours, whichever come first. Anyone can take them off. The top bolt, (the only one you can actually see) is a real pain as you can only turn it an 1/8th of a turn at a time. You can get a ratcheting wrench and ground the base done to make it thinner on the end. If not, it wont fit onto the bolt as it is to thick and hits metal below the bolt. I used a 6 point wrench. Once I got it on the bolt, I used a pry bar behind the wrench to keep pressure on it so it would stay on the bolt when I was initially breaking it loose. Once loose, you don't need the pry bar. With the tiny wrench I was not strong enough to turn the wrench. So I stacked a second wrench. You loop a closed end wrench into the open end of the wrench on the bolt. This basically makes the wrench longer and gives you more leverage.. The other two bolts you can get to with a socket. You will want to use RED LOCTITE when putting the bolts back on. The stuff dries kind of fast, so don't put it on until you are ready to truly install the bolt. I loosely put the two bottom bolts in just so things were lined up and fully did the top bolt. Then removed one bottom bolt, put the Loctite on it and fully seated it..

The s/c is definitely ready for a rebuild but you can test the slippage before removal to help diagnose the problem! I would always check the basics first, is there nothing in the intake grate or around the pump? Wear ring tolerance good? Impeller to shaft splines good? Whip out the plugs and check there condition, good colour? Any signs of water spotting etc, as you check the slippage have a good look around the intake pipes for water, check the intercooler! Personally I wouldn't use the ski until it's been put right unless it's sea trials and on this age of ski a good service is definitely in order and then at least annually give it some loving.
