Hello, thanks for taking the time to read this....
I recently bought a 2004 SEADOO GTI RFI which has been running perfectly fine until the last 2 outings with the ski.
I noticed a few weeks ago when trying to start the ski the starter acting funny like the starter wasn't engaging the flywheel. You could hear and tell the starter was spinning, but didn't sound like the teeth were actually grabbing the flywheel to turn over. Eventually by the 3rd try, it would start.
Now, I have a Seadoo that won't start, after I couldn't get it started, stranded in the lake. Not fun.... I was able to get it back safely, and am in the process of investigating to see what's going on, and if anyone has any helpful tips on replacing a starter?
The only local Seadoo shop wants to charge $300 for a new starter, AND labor on top of that. Am I dreaming or does that sound right??
If it's a matter of replacing the starter, I think I can do that, but have never worked on a Seadoo in my life!
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this with starting? I'm not sure if it would be better to just replace the starter myself, or just bite the bullet and have the shop do it.
Any help/suggestions are welcome, thanks so much in advance!
Shannon
