New to forum and jet drives... Just purchased a Seadoo Challenger 1998. (last two digits on hull serial number 98)

How can I identify the engines installed.... I think they are 717...I was told they are 787.. Dose the 717 have RAVE Valves like the 787 ?

Also did a test run in driveway. Hooked up the water hose, engines started reasonably well. Can not tell idle speed because all gauges show nothing tachs and fuel..

My question is; in the driveway with garden hose connected engines idled and did excellerate but by no means did they reach WOT. Is there a limiter on the engine when boat is not in the water ?

Thanks ... Learning curve is steep right now.

Hi sorry no Pics... I measured the boat it is 14' 8".....Twin engine.
Both Rotax engines have the Temp probe dead centre between the spark plugs...Also has oil injection ( if that helps)..
Sorry, first time with these engines..

Does anybody know if there is a speed limiter for running theses engines with only a water line ?

Well isn't that interesting.... Decals on side of boat say Seadoo Challenger....Is there anyway to use the hull id number ? I think the last two digits are year of manufacture but what about the rest ??
Thanks

Yeah, Post a Picture. Also there are decal tags on the back of the engine towards the stern side. Little black tags, those are the engine ID tags. It will tell you what engine you have.

Thanks I will check that now. My digital camera busted. But i will see if web cam can take decent pic.
Thanks..

Sorry web cam pictures are useless... I will have to wait till my kids get home with their cell phones.

I did however find the eng tag's they are 717 made in Austria. I measured the boat and it is 14' long.
Decals on side and back say Seadoo Challenger.

Anybody know if there is a rev limiter for running eng on waterline ?

Twin rotax 717 (from tag on eng) made in Austria.
14' Long
98 from hull number...

Well there ya go... A twin challenger, thank god seadoo makes keeping track of these boats as difficult as possible!.. You need to have the boat in gear otherwise the the neutral safety switch will limit the rpms

Yes you do have a Challenger 14' I have the exact same boat and yes they are 717cc no RAVE valves, They are the rotary setup.
