I agree with PWCdoc!
You can't compare this carefully assembled engine (that includes extras like the carbs, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, PTO flywheel, magneto housing, R&D head, new stator, new rotary valve, aftermarket flywheel, the caps on the RAVE valves and no core return) with a mass produced SBT piece of crap engine that only cost $845. Never mind a junk $495 engine (the Hot Rods crankshaft is worth that alone)!
Sorry for the rant but you don't want to know what I charge to remove, rebuild, and re-install an engine like this using only quality OEM parts and at times Pro-X pistons. I realize that some people are on a budget and I can appreciate that. On occasion, I will recommend an SBT engine to a customer that has an older machine that's not worth my prices. But they must deal with getting the engine from SBT and returning the core. Then, I make it very clear to them that if it fails, I will charge them my labour again. There's a lot of truth to the saying "you get what you pay for".
Anytime a new customer calls me (I don't advertise at all) I tell them that I am very expensive and then let them choose if they want to hire me. During the Summer, I still have to turn away work.
k0ke,
I have a new customer that called me today that needs that engine for his 97 Challenger. Did you use an OEM gasket kit and genuine Mikuni carb kits? If so, and if I make the sale, I'll give you $1850 for it. No need to crate it up for shipping, I'm going to be in Edmonton next week for Grandma's 100th birthday and I can pick it up if you are close by. Please post your location in your profile. PM me if you want and I'll give you my phone number. Maybe I have something you need that you can take for partial trade. If not, no worries.
