Sand in Intake?

Need a little help here. Coasted over a shallow sand bar at idle speed (boat in forward gear). Rubbed a little (water was about a foot deep), and both engines stopped. One engine started back up, but would not run at previous full strength, the other won't start at all. The side that won't start has a brand new (last week) starter.

I got back to ramp on one, pulled the boat and checked the intake with a flashlight and both looked clear. Any ideas what the problem may be? Fixes?

Wife says I'm gonna have to become much more of a gearhead if we're gonna keep this boat.

Thanks,

Update: flushed the intake with a hose, and found the upper bolt on the starter had worked loose, so the starter wasn't engaging. Tightened that back up, checked the bottom one and tightened it, too. Cranked right up. Both sides seem to be fine on the trailer. Back to the lake to re-test. Glad I live close.
